According to the Latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Occupational Statistics* the Computer Science Field is expecting some of the most robust growth of all industries in the United States between the years of 2010 - 2020. Rates of growth are expected between 6% on the low end and 32% on the high end, averaging out at 22%.It's A Software, Database and Networked World
The big gainers are Software Developers - Systems Software Developers at 32% followed closely by Database Administrators at 31%. Network and Computer Systems Administrators and Software Developers - Applications come in tied at 28%. The reasons these areas are growing the fastest is that we are moving toward a more networked cloud based computing environment where our computing, processing and storing is done off site.

Those professionals classified in fields such as Computer and Information Scientists, Software Developers and Hardware Engineers are all clocking in with average salaries at just over $100,000 per year. If not there are many paths to get a career in Computer Science. You can get an Associates Degree in Information Technology from your local Community College. You can get a variety of recognized certifications in a relatively short amount of time such as A+ and Network+ from Comptia, CCNA from Cisco and a variety of certifications from Microsoft starting with a MCP and working your way to an MCSE.
